Raising A Reader

OELC is partnered with the Child Care Action Council's Raising a Reader program that promotes early literacy for young children (birth to preschool age) and their families. Weekly, teachers send a back pack home with each child containing 4 age appropriate books for parents to read to the children. Each week the backpacks are returned and the children receive a different set of books. The system helps parents have the opportunity to read a variety of books with their children, especially if the parents do not have time to go to the library to check out books to read. Monthly newsletters provide parents with early literacy topics and ideas and teach children learn the importance of books.
